Settling in with Saturday Soup and Downton Abbey

When your Saturday looks like this, and Mother Nature seems to think that October should look like this…

…there’s no choice, but to tuck in, christen my cast-iron stovepot and make a soup from scratch.  Eat the warming meal, accompanied by Italian paper accordian pane, while watching my new addiction: Downton Abbey, and there you have a bang up afternoon.

The soup is a cobbled together mish-mash of leftover leek and carrot, with some frozen lima beans and broccoli, pasta shells, sausage, and some bay leaves and Provincal seasonings.  Not too shabby!
