Double Windsor

The Double Windsor in Windsor Terrace, right opposite the D.U.B. Pie Shop, has been open for over a year now, and I’ve lived 6 blocks away all of that time without ever having been.  Tonight – that was remedied, and I’m so glad I did.  Neighborhood restaurants, bars, coffee shops (yeah anything really – bodegas, laundromats, this list can just keep on growing) are both familiar and inviting, offering a close refuge from home for those days when you want to feel at home, without the actuality of being in your apartment (yes, take refuge in your local bodega).

You want to be oot and aboot and see who else lives in your neighborhood, only buildings, blocks, or even mere feet from your stoop steps.

Sam’s Blog – Sam, I like your blog.

Tonight we had roommate hang-out time since Therese will sadly be leaving the apartment in May, and luckily could call on The Double Windsor to check out their beer on tap and food.

Making bold and good decisions, the three of us decided to split the mac and cheese (delicious with large shell pasta), a plate of fries, the gorgonzola and pear salad and the special: a side of asparagus.  It all hit the spot, and everything was exactly what we wanted, a little fruit and greens, some cheesy comfort food, and we topped it off with the chocolate bread pudding dessert with a scoop of whipped cream.  The Double Windsor’s food menu is pleasantly varied from mussels to grilled cheese to a sandwich or two, and I wanted to try everything on it (hence the splitting of dishes).  With a fantastic list of beer on tap (tonight included just kicked kegs of Donnybrook Stout and a beer from Cisco brewery) and a U-shaped bar, the Double Windsor is my new favorite neighborhood restaurant/bar.
