Summer of the Espadrille

Ah yes – summer shoes are synonymous with espadrilles, but it seems that more so than in the past few summers, new vivacious and desirable versions of the espadrille are continuously popping up.

First up – TOMS Shoes – do good, look stylish.  Sweetly nautical, the wedge version is the cat’s meow, and TOMS will donate a pair of shoes to a child in need every time you buy a pair.

Soludos – The supremely affordable version.  All shoes under $30, the brand’s raison d’etre is exactly how I feel about espadrilles – notoriously difficult to find Stateside – so thank you Nick Brown.  “Combining the clink of a glass ‘Salud’ and the heat of the sun ‘sol’, Soludos was born.”

And last but not least, MYMU espadrilles, designed in Spain and made in Argentina, they are available at one of my favorite local New York boutiques – Babel Fair – which sources its stock entirely from the international realm.  Made for the glamorous, Mediterranean jet-set crowd, the two-tone versions make straw luxurious and desirable.  They turn straw into gold – they’re the Rumplestilskin of fashion.
