Science + Home Decor Tips = Life: Birds

Currently watching the new program, Life, by Discovery.

Oprah’s VO on the Vogelkop male bowerbird’s “seduction parlor”: This one prefers darker colors.  He’s done up his bower with deer dung…and charcoal.

And his human counterpart:

The Vogelkop bowerbirds are from Indonesia and the “bower” refers to the cone-shaped, nest-like structures they build.  They then decorate the bower with berries, leaves, fungus, moss, etc…  to attract their female mates.  Yet another amazing bird courtship ritual.  Who knew?  Interior decorating is the key to a girl’s heart.

Human females don’t usually find mates based on their interior decorating skills with flowers and deer dung.  Men who cook are much preferred.
